#141 – Tasks for a Specific Developer
Managers must accept that Scrum teams are self-organizing. Therefore, if the PO thinks the request is to become a PBI and ordered at the top of the Product Backlog, to begin with, the Scrum team might pick it up at Sprint Planning. And, if they do, it’s entirely up to them to decide who works it, no matter how big expectations there are that a specific developer should do it.
If the manager wants John to do the task because John is an experienced specialist in exporting charts to PDF, then that’s a very good for not doing it; instead, let someone else from the team do it (maybe with a little help from John), so his knowledge and skills are shared with the rest of team, and the bottleneck risk is reduced.
