#190 – Sharing Knowledge
It’s great to learn from others in our own organization. Often, there’s so much to learn from colleagues, and since it’s typically proven practices from your own shared context, it’ll be easier to apply than the takeaways from most external courses (which give us other types of valuable input, of course).
However, if neither your Product Owner nor Management (who, by the way, should not worry about your Sprint Velocity at all) have accepted that enabling cross-organizational learning will, initially, slow down value delivery, then, you’ve got some educating and coaching to do. Internal knowledge sharing is an investment—just like sending people on external courses, but instead of actual money, you pay with “part of your velocity”. A bonus here is that knowledge sharing through, e.g., Social Programming is actually both fun, effective and builds trust within and across teams, so do it!
